I just ended a whirlwind six weeks of travel. Six weeks is a long time to be on the road. I was home for 1-2 days between each trip, just long enough to drop off one suitcase and grab another.

If I didn’t love my job, it would SO not be worth it. But I do love my job. And I love coming home. Even when it’s just for one day, the feeling I get when I board that last leg of the flight is incredible. Like my heart is doing a happy dance.

Someone asked me recently what the best part of being home is. Obviously, my family and friends are the best part. Sleeping in my bed, on my sheets, is good too. And coffee. I miss drinking coffee that I’ve made, out of a ceramic coffee cup, at my house.

So today, I am a happy camper. Happy to be home, drinking my coffee slowly, out of a real cup, instead of out of a paper Starbucks cup, while racing through the airport.

APS 1/16

It is that time again! The Lilly After Party Sale starts at 8am tomorrow (Monday, January 4, 2016). This is the perfect time to stock up on Lilly, grab some pieces you missed out on during the year, and maybe even find some holy grail pieces hiding! Here are some tips for shopping the sale:

  1. Create an account and update any billing or shipping info BEFOREHAND. Like now. You won’t have time tomorrow.
  2. Log in early to secure a place in the virtual line.
  3. The site will probably crash. It almost always does. Be patient; it is always worth it.
  4. If the site does crash, check Lilly’s facebook page and twitter for updates. They are very good about keeping everyone apprised of the situation.
  5. Check out quickly, because just having something in your tote does not reserve it for you. Things will disappear from your bag as they sell out.
  6. HOWEVER, keep in mind that as soon as you check out, you go to the end of the line again.
  7. Shipping is free though, so multiple checkouts do not cost you anything extra.
  8. Holy Grails have been known to pop in randomly (I spotted a YGR maxi dress once when they were going for $300+ on ebay)
  9. Look at unique items, like GWPs in the accessory section. I always find cool stuff there.
  10. Don’t forget about Lilly stores! The sale prices are good in-store too. If you can’t visit in person, call or shop online. They typically (but not always) offer free shipping too.

But most of all, HAVE FUN! It’s Lilly, after all. It isn’t supposed to be stressful.

Good luck!

While browsing Twitter recently, I came across a few beautiful articles written for National Adoption Month that got me thinking about all the incredible ways adoption has touched my life. Though I personally was not adopted, I look at my groups of family, friends, and coworkers and realize that without adoption, I would not have been blessed with the relationships that I have.

Here are two particularly poignant articles written about adoption:

To My Adoptive Parents” by Tori Lyn

What My Adoptive Family Taught Me About Unconditional Love” by Shannon O’Connell.

To those of you who have adopted, I can’t express enough gratitude. You are changing the course of a child’s life. You are giving someone down the road their spouse, or best friend, or coworker. Thank you. ♥

Veteran’s Day is one of the most important holidays we celebrate all year. How do you properly thank the people that have risked their lives to ensure that you continue to enjoy freedom at home? How do you show appreciation for something you cannot fathom? I don’t know. I come from a military family and I often feel that any words of gratitude I could possibly say would pale in comparison the sacrifices they make.

To my grandfathers, big brother, father-in-law, best friend/college roommate/mother of my godson, my uncles, cousins, countless friends and coworkers, and to every service person I do not know, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I enjoyed reading “The History and Meaning of Veteran’s Day” by Christian Millord this morning, this excerpt in particular:

“Today, Veterans Day is designated to commemorate all living and deceased veterans who heeded the call of duty. That would include those missing in action, our wounded warriors, former prisoners of war and millions of veterans who have served both in war and peace.

When recruits enter the Armed Forces, they are aware that they could be thrust into harm’s way. Who are these men and women? They are ordinary individuals who sometimes make great sacrifices and endure extraordinary challenges. What higher commitment is there than to place one’s life on the line for humanity?

Our veterans are stationed around the globe, providing disaster relief, defending democratic institutions, fighting ISIS and enhancing security in Afghanistan. On this day, and every day, let us be thankful for their service and pray for their safety and eventual return home.

Our veterans know that natural freedom is an ideal worth defending because there will always be terrorists and tyrants who hope to undermine liberty, progress and security. By honoring our veterans, we show gratitude for their devotion to human dignity and freedom. Through their selfless service, we might better understand responsible liberty and be inspired to lead better lives.”

Happy Veteran’s Day!

Updates as to why I have been missing lately:

  1. I’ve been working my ass off. I’ve recently taken on additional professional responsibilities while we go through a reorganization at work and I have barely come up for air. It isn’t unusual for me to be sitting at my computer at 10pm, still working. Everyone says I’m working too hard, doing too much, etc, but as a young female in an older, more experienced, male dominated industry, what other choice do I have? I’m not getting taken advantage of, I’m simply being a team player in an ever-changing climate. It will definitely pay off in the long run. (photo credit: Pinterest)
  2. I’ve been trying to settle in to my new role as wife. Honestly, for us, married life is not much different from when we were dating. We work together, live together, spend our weekends together…same as before. However, there have been some adjustments to make. After the wedding, we decided to combine finances, insurance policies, become each other’s beneficiaries, the whole nine yards. My whole life, I’ve only been responsible for me. I’ve had no one else to answer to. Now, if I want to buy an armful of Lilly, I have someone else I have to think about. I have to wonder if my husband would be pissed. Because it isn’t my money anymore. It’s ours. I have to print two proof of insurance cards and put them in two glove compartments. It’s been an adjustment for sure. In addition to combining our lives financially, we’ve been combining material items too. Though all of his belongings and almost all of mine were in our home already, fitting the remainder of my belongings and the wonderful gifts we were blessed with for our wedding has been a challenge. We had some friends and family members moving into new homes around the same time and were able to fill in the gaps they had with some of our older kitchen appliances and dishes, which helped tremendously when we needed to fit our wedding gifts in.
  3. FOOTBALL. We live and breathe football down here in the South. As a University of Tennessee alumnae, I am REALLY pleased with how my Vols have turned things around the last couple of games. As the wife of a Clemson Tiger, I am blown away by what a powerhouse CU has been this season. Both teams have big games this weekend: Tennessee vs South Carolina and Clemson vs Florida State. I’m really looking forward to these games, as well as the rest of the season. Look how perfect these graphics are for our house divided! Gotta love a little rivalry, especially since the teams don’t play each other 🙂   Rocky Top Photo credit: Pinterest FullSizeRender
  4. Kiss My Southern Sass. The KMSS girls have my heart. We recently welcomed a new group of reps (“Baby Bows”) to our family and I couldn’t be more pleased with the brilliant, beautiful girls that were selected. The existing reps (“Big Bows”) get the opportunity to mentor a different Baby Bow every week, and ultimately, a Big Bow and a Baby Bow are paired together, like a sorority Big and Little. The girls I have been paired with the last few weeks are nothing short of incredible. They all have such varied interests, from different locations and with different backgrounds. I’m loving getting to know them.

I was selected to receive the I Do VoxBox from Influenster right before my wedding- very cute and timely. The box contained a lot of neat products that were very useful to me for the wedding, as well as just for everyday life.

I received a bottle of Neutrogena Hand Cream, a Skinnygirl Nutrition Bar in lemon swirl flavor, UrgentRX pain killer, Sahale “Grab and Go” almond snack mix, indeed nanoblur makeup primer, Cover Girl foundation, and a Cover Girl lipstick in a unique purple color.

The hand cream is very rich, very moisturizing, although it takes a little while to adjust to the texture and consistency. It feels almost like triple antibiotic, but once you become accustomed to it, it feels great.

Skinnygirl Nutrition Bars are available in six flavors, and the lemon swirl has to be the worst, because I can’t imagine anything else tasting that bad. Granted, I am not a lemon person, but I can appreciate a good lemon cookie or cake or something. The flavor was not good and the texture was sticky.

The UrgentRX did its job as expected and worked quickly to cure my headache. They also make a quick-acting allergy medicine, which I would be interested to try.

The nanoblur primer was really cool! It provided a smooth base for foundation. I had never tried anything like it before, but really liked it, and will probably buy it again. The CoverGirl foundation was really nice as well. It went on easily and blended well and lasted all day. The color is a little too light for my summer tan, so I will have to wait until I fade a little to truly test it.

When I first saw the lipstick, I was more than a little hesitant. I was pleasantly surprised though! It was purple, but the blue tones in the color made my teeth look so white!

I was really pleased with this VoxBox. I received really high quality products and I’m glad Influenster chose me to review them!

**I received these products for free for testing purposes from Influenster in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions are my own!**

I am so happy to be back on here! And…I am now a wife!

We were married August 1, 2015 at a lovely Civil War-era home. Our colors were pink and gray {swoon} and I can’t wait to share photos with you.

We honeymooned in the Dominican Republic at the Melia Caribe in Punta Cana {easternmost point of the island} and took day trips into Higuey, La Romana, and Santo Domingo. Everywhere we went was so, so beautiful. I’ve included a couple of photos below.

I am so glad to be back, y’all. I’m glad to be back at work, to be blogging again, to be reviewing products and showing my outfits, just glad that life is returning to some sense of normalcy. You never realize how consuming a wedding is until you’re planning one and it completely takes over your life! And I even had a wedding planner!

We’re doing some home improvement projects right now as well and I can’t wait to share those with you. One hint: giant closet.

I have a few posts I am working on, so here is what you can expect to see from me in the next week {not necessarily in this order}:

  1. Wedding Post!
  2. Lilly APS Post
  3. Football Season Kickoff Post
  4. Influenster Bride-to-Be box {I received it right before the wedding- how sweet!}
  5. Normal reviews of my ipsy glam bags and rocksbox shipments

Jul 022015

Wow, what a long (unintentional) break it has been! Between work, traveling for work, and wedding planning, I haven’t had a lot of free time to devote to writing lately.

The wedding countdown is at less than one month. It’s so strange for something that we’ve been looking forward to for so long and worked so hard on to suddenly be SO close.

I spent the last week attending a work conference, which I love, but traveling for work comes with another set of challenges. When I am working away from home, it limits the time I can spend on wedding things, so to be away for six days at this point in the wedding planning is difficult!

I turned 26 last weekend and was so blessed by the presence of my family and good friends. They made my weekend wonderful. One of my aunts also hosted a bridal shower for me last weekend and I was completely overwhelmed and humbled by the amount of love we were shown. As the first one in my group of friends to get married, I really didn’t know what to expect, but I was (and still am) blown away.

I’m hoping to take it easy this holiday weekend and catch up on some blogging and wrap up wedding details. I’ve missed you guys!

I recently received my second Rocksbox, once again jam-packed with cute jewelry. This box contained a gold and turquoise House of Harlow necklace (which is a super cute line by Nicole Richie), a Sophie Harper bracelet with a tiny, delicate pave infinity symbol, and Loren Hope stud earrings.

The necklace has a definite tribal flair, with alternating gold and turquoise spikes. It is called a “collar necklace” because it lies flat and close to your collarbone.

The Sophie Harper bracelet is so pretty. It is delicate and dainty, just a fine gold chain, with little infinity symbol. It looks great stacked with other small bracelets or a watch. It is available exclusively through Rocksbox.

The Loren Hope studs are perfect if you want some sparkle without wearing dangly earrings. They have round center stones, surrounded by a halo of smaller clear stones. Very pretty!
